The Department of History at Bartın University Faculty of Letters, together with the History Club, hosted a conference delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hizmetli, focusing on the Abbasid period, one of the brightest eras in Islamic history.
In his talk titled “The Renaissance of Islam: The Abbasid Era,” Prof. Dr. Hizmetli discussed the period as a peak in Islamic science, culture, and art. The conference examined the translation movements and scientific advances that developed mainly in Baghdad and Samarra, covering fields such as philosophy, astronomy, medicine, and architecture. The Abbasid Caliphate’s contributions to global intellectual history were also highlighted.
The historical dynamics of this era, often described as the Golden Age of Islam, were presented through Prof. Dr. Hizmetli’s clear and engaging narration. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session with History Department students.
